new additions to the back-issue bins

Back-issue sorting continues! More wonderful comic
book goodness going into the back-issue bins at
the sidekick store in Dartmouth!

Batmans! He skis, he fights assassins with hockey
sticks, Batman shows his versatility as a crime-fighter
through the eighties!

Spider-man comics from the eighties during the
Hobgoblin storyline!

spideyAnnuals_A_dart

I always liked Annuals as they were usually self-contained
stories so you didn’t have to worry about finding the
next issue – which was a problem for those of us who
bought comics in the ancient times before comic book
stores spread across the world! In these Annuals,
Mary Jane wears the webs, She-hulk teams up with Spidey
in a tale illustrated by John Byrne, Peter Parker and
MJ finally get married (though this may have been un-
imagined by Mephisto, I’ll have to check!) and the
totally wicked Spidey annual by Denny O’Neill and
Frank Miller where Doctor Doom tries to get powers
from Doctor Strange (medical competitiveness?)
but Spidey intervenes. A real classic.

spideyAnnuals_B_dart

These annuals were okay, too, but some were tied
into summer-long events like Evolutionary War and
Atlantis Attacks, which kind of put me off them.

spidey_todd_dart

When Todd McFarlane took over Spider-man, the book
kicked into high gear with some terrific stories by
David Michelinie featuring the Taskmaster, Sandman,
the Prowler and an “Action”-packed cover swipe that
could be called “Super.”

Amalgam Comics were kind of like a Marvel and DC
cross-over where characters from both universes
were re-imagined and combined. With the rivalry
(bordering on animosity!) between their parent
companies, Disney & Warner, it’s very unlikely
that the Amalgam (or any of the DC/Marvel crossovers)
will be reprinted anytime soon.

superlois_valentine

these two issues of All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison
and Frank Quitely would make a great Valentine gift.
It’s the story of Superman coming to terms with his
own mortality, trying to show Lois how he feels, having
to battle two super powered time-travelling jerks bent
on wooing Lois and so much more! Truly a gem of a comic
book series.

Kind of like seeing the Superior Foes of Spider-man
but back in the 80s!

Marking Marvel’s 25th anniversary, each Marvel comic
had this celebratory border on their covers during
this month in 1986.

kraven

The second part of Kraven’s Last Hunt by DeMateeis &
Zeck – classic spidey tale!

All these and many more can be found at the sidekick
superstore, Strange Adventures – Dartmouth!

Three Buck Books!

What better way to kick off the working week than with a pile of cheap comics? We’ve got a box of cool back issues at the Halifax store, all for three bucks apiece! Superman, X-Men, Ghostbusters, Archie, Six Million Dollar Man & Bionic Woman, Star Trek & Star Wars, and lots more!

IMG_7398

One of the first inter-company crossovers is still one of the best, and it’s cheaper than most new comics! Killer art by Walt Simonson and Terry Austin!

Three dollars is a small price to pay to find out just what the heck is going on here.

A couple of Frank Miller classics at affordable prices (with added Dave Gibbons to boot!).

Star Trek? Star Wars? Pick your poison, we’ve got ’em both, and it won’t cost you much!

Save your six million dollars and enjoy some bionic battles for cheap!

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Back-Issue Bonanza!

It’s pretty amazing what you can find when you tidy up a little! We’re still getting our back room figured out from the move (yeah, we know, over a year ago–we’ve been busy!), but in the process of cleaning and rearranging, we’ve unearthed some frankly fabulous treasures of yesteryear. Take a peek at these classic AMAZING SPIDER-MAN issues that are now priced and up for grabs!

Nothing fancy, y’know, just the first appearances of Mysterio, Sandman, and the Green Goblin. Run-of-the-mill stuff like that. But that’s not all! We also have some great Golden & Silver Age BATMAN & DETECTIVE COMICS issues as well!

We even have the second Marvel Comics appearance of KISS! Not printed with KISS blood, but it does have a pull-out poster.
