AUGUSTUS NOTES

Posted on August 13th, 2011

our August sale is still one. Save 20% off all comics, graphic novels and toys. Especially good if you need some reading for the beach or cottage! We have some terrific EC annuals which collect 3-5 of the original EC classics such as Vault of Horror, Frontline Combat and Piracy! (one of my favourites to read on the beach)

The big DC relaunch starts on August 31st with the release of Flashpoint #5 and Justice League #1. We’re thinking of taking part in the midnight release so folks in the maritimes will be among the very first in the world to read these comics!

I thought this was kind of cool:

Marvel Hero cupcakes you can make at home! We are bringing in the Han Solo in carbonite ice cube trays…maybe we should try to get these as well?

Do you have the twitter?
Do you follow us?
Fredericton tweets under the
handle @StrangeNB; Dartmouth does so as @DartmouthComix; and Halifax is @strangeadventrz! We post things that hopefully will interest you or at the very least, entertain you for 140 or so characters. We also use twitter to mention spotlight sales, special deals, stuff we found, movie ticket giveaways, etc.

FanExpo takes place in a couple of weeks in Toronto. Dave and Nathan from the Halifax store will be heading there. Nathan for his first-ever comic convention, and Dave to debut the latest issue of Slam-a-rama! Issue #4 of Slam-a-rama will make its first appearance at his table in the FanExpo artist alley. I think his booth is #128 and he’s sharing with The Wordburglar and other fine comic book folks. If you are going to FanExpo, be sure to say “hi!” We’ll have copies of Slam-a-rama in our stores as soon as Dave gets back to Halifax.

Upcoming events for us include the Word on
the Street festival at the end of September, a book launch with Kagan Mcleod for his wonderful Infinite Kung-Fu graphic novel (click the link for some background on Kagan and his book), and a signing with Kate Beaton for her new book Hark! A Vagrant! collecting some of her amazing comics from her website. Kate’s book is out in September, but she’s going to be on a busy booksigning frenzy and won’t be able to get out to the maritimes until sometime in October. Stay tuned!

One of our past events was our road trip to the Sugar Moon! Sugar Moon Farms is a working maple farm, making all kinds of maple products, especially syrup!

They also have a beautiful dining room where they make terrific pancakes, local sausages and maple bacon, well worth a drive to Earltown (about an hour from Halifax, 20 minutes north of Truro) for a great brunch. Click on the link for info on Sugar Moon.

Cartoonists Mark Oakley and Caanan Grall came along and spent the afternoon working off a feed of pancakes by drawing furiously!

We might try some more “Strange Adventures on the road” to places like Mahone Bay or Wolfville. Any suggestions? Requests?

I think that’s all I have for updates just now. As ever, feel free to send along any questions or comments to me at calum@strangeadventures.com

bye for now!
