ITEM!: Birdhouse
Birdhouse is a book that is part tragedy, part romance and part fairy tale. A servant attempts to poison the aged and despised King, and the King’s only daughter despairs of life in the castle. She longs to return to a town she once visited, but she is forbidden to step outside of the castle walls. Her only hope falls on an absent-minded servant hired to do construction.
With his help, she hopes to recapture the freedom she so briefly felt. With a fairy-tale-like setting, combined with modern themes of isolation, obligation, and longing, Birdhouse is a magical debut graphic novel from Vernon White. You can watch a trailer for Birdhouse HERE.

ITEM!: Ellis says
From Warren Ellis: “I have here the sizzle reel for your new favourite TV show. It’s OCEAN’S ELEVEN. The Sixties original. In space. With Sean f***ing Pertwee. Devised by old crony Mike Sizemore, directed by Steve Barron. It’s called SLINGERS.” This is the link to the sizzle reel. Go and watch it now. (The bit with the gun cracks me up.) And this is the SLINGERS category on Mike’s blog. All kinds of interesting stuff there.

ITEM!: The (new) League
My new favourite TV show, since Slingers isn’t on yet, is a new
comedy on FX about a group of friends and their fantasy football
league. You don’t need to know football to enjoy it and it’s pretty darn funny. Check it out here.
