ITEM!: Book launch
Mark Oakley’s Star Drop book launch
@ Strange Adventures comic book shop!
Sunday, 20 December 2009
1PM to 3PM
According to cartoonist Mark Oakley: “Stardrop” is the story of Princess Ashelle. Fleeing a vast galactic empire, she has come to Earth to hide from war, politics and family. (Her father is the commander of the Imperial Fleet and revolution is stirring among the stars.) Ashelle just wants to make friends and find a rewarding job and bring happiness into the world. She winds up in a small Nova Scotian university town, (loosely based on Wolfville), and tries her best to fit in. But the reach of the Empire and family ties are long. . .
The story is a written with a mix of humour and drama. –My last digest-sized comic, “The Walking Mage”, was filled with cynicism and political satire. This time around, rather than writing about things which make me angry, I wanted instead to explore ways a person can live successfully in the world through degrees of happiness, will power and general enthusiasm. I found I had lot more to say this time around; Ashelle has proven to be an inspiring and lovable character.
Stardrop is written for all-ages and is a 200 page black & white book with a colour cover.
